Fault repair service for power outages and defects

Fault reporting

One report, a clear process

On the phone, we first establish whether there is a hazard — then which areas are affected and what was last connected to the mains. These details determine which tools come along.

The more precisely the fault is described, the shorter the search will be on site. We note down your details, prioritise the report by urgency and give you a time window. Once the time window is set, we pack accordingly: insulation tester, cable locator, replacement breakers and the common circuit breaker types.

  • Address, floor and how the building can be accessed
  • Affected area: single room, whole flat, whole house
  • Which switch tripped: RCD or circuit breaker
  • Whether the switch can be reset or trips again immediately
  • What was last connected or in operation
  • Whether there is a smell of burning, smoke or visible damage

What you can check before calling

Four steps that require no technical expertise and often already narrow down the cause. Anything beyond that is a job for a qualified electrician.

  1. 1

    Check neighbours and the street

If it's also dark next door or the street lighting is out, the cause lies in the utility's network, not in your installation. In that case, your grid operator's fault line can help, not us.

  2. 2

Open the distribution board and check the switch positions

Open the fuse box cover and see which switch is in the OFF position: the wide RCD with a test button, or a single circuit breaker. Note down the labelling of the circuit.

  3. 3

    Disconnect appliances from the mains

Unplug everything in the affected area — especially washing machines, tumble dryers, kettles, fan heaters and chargers. A faulty appliance is the most common cause of a tripped RCD.

  4. 4

Switch it back on once — not repeatedly

Reset the switch once. If it trips again immediately, leave it off and call us. Repeatedly switching it back on puts strain on the system and covers up clues that help with fault-finding.

  5. 5

Submit your report with your details

Call +49 30 23125102 or use the form. Tell us your address, the affected area, the switch position and what was last connected — we'll get back to you with a time window.

When you should no longer attempt anything yourself

If there is a smell of burning, smoke, scorch marks on sockets, visibly damaged cables or water in the distribution board: switch nothing on, leave the area and call us. In case of fire or acute danger, call 112 first. Working on live circuits is exclusively a job for a qualified electrician.

Typical faults

These are the cases we see most often

Four fault patterns make up the majority of our jobs. Each has a typical cause — and an approach we use to narrow it down before anything is replaced.

RCD (residual current device) trips

Usually a single appliance causes a fault current — often a washing machine, dryer, water heater or a charger. We disconnect the circuits one by one, measure the leakage current and identify the culprit instead of simply replacing the breaker.

Approach
Switch off circuits individually

RCD trip current and trip time

Partial outage: one area without power

A room or a floor is dark while the rest works fine. This is often caused by a loose terminal in a junction box, a faulty circuit breaker or a broken conductor. Using a cable locator and continuity testing, we narrow the fault down to the affected section.

Tools
Cable locator, continuity tester
Common cause
Loose terminal in the junction box

Socket not working or showing scorch marks

Loose terminals create contact resistance that generates heat — visible as dark marks or a burning smell. We check the terminal, replace the socket insert and also inspect the neighbouring outlets on the same circuit.

Fault in the consumer unit

Breakers that no longer hold, loosened busbar connections, or a consumer unit without RCD protection. We survey the installation, document the measured values and tell you whether a repair is sufficient or a full upgrade makes more sense.

Written record of condition and readings
Outcome
Repair or full rewiring
