What electrical work costs and how the quote is put together

We don't calculate with rough estimates over the phone, but with what we've actually seen at your installation. On this page you'll find out which items belong in a quote and which factors push the price up or down.

First we see the system, then we name the price

Two flats with the same floor plan can differ significantly in price — what matters is the cable routing, the building's structure and the condition of the meter cabinet.

Over the phone we can tell you how we proceed and roughly what to expect. A reliable figure only emerges during the on-site visit: we open the meter cabinet, check cable cross-sections and circuit protection, inspect the risers and wall penetrations, and measure the runs that new cables will need to take.

This survey forms the basis of the written quote, with quantities, material items and planned working hours. It's non-binding, and you're welcome to take your time comparing it with others. You'll find a detailed description of how the on-site visit works under Process.

Five factors that move the price

For almost every project, the same five factors determine whether a renovation falls at the lower or upper end of the range.

  • Scope — the number of circuits, sockets, switches and light fittings. Every additional outlet means cable, box, chase and connection work.
  • Building structure — plasterboard can be opened in minutes, while brick and concrete take routing time, dust protection and finishing. In older buildings, old fabric-insulated cables or missing protective earth conductors are often an added factor.
  • Accessibility — bare wall surfaces in a shell construction are cheaper than working in an occupied flat, where furniture has to be moved, surfaces covered and work spread across daily sections.
  • Materials — a standard switch range or a designer series, a basic distribution board or a cabinet with surge protection and spare capacity: the choice is yours, and we'll show you the difference in the relevant item.
  • Time pressure — we schedule work that can be planned into available capacity. Work outside regular hours, on weekends, or as emergency service is billed with a surcharge.

Billing

From quote to invoice

So you know where you stand: here's which items are included in a quote from Elektro Hansen, when we work on a time-and-materials basis versus a fixed price, and how billing works once the work is complete.

Tax bonus for tradesperson services

For private households, labor, travel and machine costs are proportionately deductible in the income tax return – materials, however, are not. That's why we show these portions separately on every invoice. Please settle the amount by bank transfer, as the tax office requires proof of payment. For advice on your personal tax situation, please consult your tax office or a wage tax assistance association.
